Week Five: RSS and Feed Readers

I chose the Google Reader after watching the step by step guide. The subscriptions I chose were Medline Plus and National and Local Weather. The reason for choosing Google Reader were the easy to understand instructions.

Week Three: Online Meetings

I chose Kansas tax forms webinar from WebJunction. It was presented by Andy Coultis and
Carl York from the Department of Revenue with Laura DeBaun as web monitor. The presentation was very informative and highly detailed. The presenters done an outstanding job covering their information. It was really a plus that you could leave and come back to where you left off.

It was geared more on the level of a tax preparer than for a librarian. The information about Homestead and Food Sale Tax was very helpful in knowing the qualifications required to file for them.

The webinars are truly the way of the future and will be very beneficial for librarians that are unable to leave their libraries to attend workshops.

Week Two: Online Communities

The online community I chose was Facebook. Facebook was fairly simple to find my way around. I used this online community to keep in touch with family and friends. It will be helpful in the future to correspond with co-workers, family and friends. Libraries can use this resource as a tool for networking with other libraries by posting information as it becomes available. The patrons would be able to become a fan of our page which would kept them informed of what's new at the library and the coming events.
